When I die

When I die

I’m not afraid I’ll drown.

I’ve swum these waters before.

There’s always an outlet.

What I’m afraid of

Is trying to keep my bearings

My head above water

My sight of the land where I want to be.

When I die

I’m afraid I’ll end up

Spun round

Gone thru the cycle

Lost in my confusion

Washed up on some benighted shore.

I’m afraid of when I come to again

An amnesiac blinking in the daylight

And afraid of drowning all over again.
